The Possibilities for Destination Development in Hajdúszoboszló as Reflected By Guests’ and Hosts’ Opinions

Abstract

In Hungary health tourism has an outstanding growth potential due to the unique natural conditions, the high-quality infrastructure and the traditional spa culture. Its significance is demonstrated by the fact that in recent years the most visited destinations in the country have been the towns involved in spa, medical and wellness tourism. In the present study we investigate the tourists’ and the local service providers’ opinions on the tourism supply, the strengths and weaknesses of the destination and the possible future tourism developments in the spa town of Hajdúszoboszló. We have concluded that in our days the high quality and continuously expanding spa services are vitally important, however the pleasant spa town atmosphere, the diverse cultural programmes and entertainment opportunities have also become significant requirements. Finally, in the hosts’ opinion the success of the future development of the spa town is based on the strong local and territorial cooperation.
