Abstract

This study provides a summary of research that was undertaken in Budapest’s District VII in autumn 2017 to analyse
the opinions and perceptions of local residents, visitors and tourists about the night-time economy. The research is
based on participant observation, in-depth interviews with tourism, hospitality and marketing experts, short interviews
with residents, tourists and local employees, as well as questionnaires with local residents, visitors to the district and
foreign tourists. In total, 574 questionnaires were completed in Hungarian - 283 by local residents and 291 by visitors
to the District - and 361 foreign tourists were able to summarize their opinions on the basis of the questions. Opinions
were compared and contrasted, with the findings leading to a number of recommendations for managing the nighttime
economy in order to benefit the various stakeholder groups simultaneously.
