Abstract

In Central Europe, including Hungary, rural tourism began to boom in the 1990s, which was further helped by the increasing availability of rural and regional development resources after EU accession. The expectations of tourism consumers are constantly changing and expanding. On the demand side, we experience an increasing interest in almost untouched natural treasures and landscapes, which visitors want to discover in an experiential way as participants in active, eco-, sustainable and rural tourism. In my questionnaire research, I examined the importance of quality rural tourism and the role of related wine and gastrotourism among visitors to Tokaj-Hegyalja. In our modern and digital world, guests still primarily go to quality rural accommodation to enjoy traditional values such as silence and closeness to nature, and despite being online, their decisions are still determined by the recommendations and opinions of people close to them. The biggest attractive power to the Tokaj wine region is not wine, but the experience elements and treasures of active, cultural and nature tourism.
