Th e incidence of traumatic spinal cord injuries is quite rare, but it is an important type of injury, and it can have irreversible consequences if not recognized in time. Since 1960s, the guidelines for the spinal cord injuries in many countries included the use of a rigid collar and a spine board. Th e eff ectiveness of these devices were measured several times previously, but there was no change because of the lock of high-quality evidence studies and summeries.
Th e purpose of the study was to highlight the possible limitations and dangers of using these equipments, based on a Danish systematic review. Based on this literature review, the “Danish National Board of Health” prepared a new recommendation. Th e basic of spinal cord stabilisation in these recommendation is not the mechanism of the injury but the results of clinical/physical examinations. Also in Hungary, it would be important to reconsider and unify these guidelines in the a pre-hospital and a hospital area.
