Abstract

General trust is a significant factor in maintaining social and economic relationships, and is particularly important in rural communities where closer social relationships are formed. This research investigates the general trust of people living in rural areas in the settlements of Gyöngyös district in Hungary. The aim of the research is to determine the level of trust that people living in the district have and whether different demographic factors influence its development. A questionnaire method was used to assess the opinions of the participants, with questions based on the European Social Survey (ESS). Data were analysed using quantitative statistical methods. The results of the research can draw significant conclusions in terms of measures aimed at strengthening trust between people living in rural areas and supporting community life.
