In the period covered by our questionnaire survey, which spans about a decade and a half, the regions that determine the growth of the Hungarian economy have changed significantly. The success of settlements as business locations is now mainly determined by their internal characteristics, in addition to their position in the hierarchy of settlements and their administrative roles, their economic capabilities and income-generating opportunities have become decisive factors. The explanatory power of modern business services, geographical location, accessibility, infrastructure, historical and cultural assets, the human resources available in the locality, the institutions generating innovation, the environmental condition and, last but not least, the activity of local development policy has been strengthened.
In our study, we pay special attention to the assessment of environmental quality and international connectivity as locational factors and their differentiated representation in relation to specific settlements and settlement types.
