The role of green hydrogen and lithium-ion batteries in sustainable energy storage: Systematic literature review and bibliometric evaluation using LCA and economic approaches

The aim of the research is to explore research trends, scientific collaboration networks, and thematic development directions in green hydrogen and lithium-ion batteries, with a particular focus on economic aspects, using systematic literature research and bibliometric analysis. The study was conducted by filtering publications identified in the Scopus and WoS databases according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, removing duplicates and documenting the data extraction process. The study was motivated by the continuous development of energy storage technologies, the key role of renewable energy integration, life cycle analysis approaches, and related economic issues. The results identify the most influential publications in the field and highlight the different application advantages of the technologies. Green hydrogen is primarily suitable for long-term, high-capacity energy storage, while lithium-ion batteries are more suitable for providing short- and medium-term grid flexibility. The research concludes that the complementary use of these two technologies can contribute to the optimization of future integrated energy systems and the achievement of sustainability and economic goals.
